in lost billable hours.

The problem

Email is where billable hours go to die

You spend half your working day in your inbox. Most of it is billable. Almost none of it makes it onto a time entry.

20%+
of billable time is lost to unrecorded email work, according to legal time-tracking industry studies
$50k+
average annual revenue loss per attorney from under-recorded time, at a $350/hr blended rate
6 min
minimum billable unit — most emails take that or longer to read, draft, and reply
How it works

From inbox to invoice in three clicks

No new software to learn. Tallymail lives inside Outlook, where you already work.

1

Connect your inbox

One-click install from Microsoft AppSource. Tallymail reads your mail — it doesn't move it anywhere.

2

Automatic matching

It classifies and values every matter-related email automatically, using your existing matter list and hourly rates.

3

Review and export

A defensible, timestamped time entry for every email — ready for your existing billing system.

Features

Built for attorneys, not bookkeepers

Every feature exists because a real attorney asked for it.

⚡

Automatic matter matching

Tallymail learns which emails belong to which matter from your existing correspondence — no manual tagging.

🛡️

Defensible audit trail

Every time entry keeps a timestamped record of the underlying email — holds up if billing is ever questioned.

🔗

Works with what you already run

Not a practice management replacement. Feeds clean time entries to Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, or anything else.

💵

Flexible rates

Set rates per matter or per client — flat, hourly, or blended, matched to how your firm actually bills.

🔒

Private by design

Tallymail reads mail to classify and value it — nothing is forwarded, sold, or exposed to third parties.

🚀

Minutes to set up

First captured time entry typically happens in minutes, not hours. No migration project.

Install in Outlook

Two clicks to install. Certified by Microsoft.

Tallymail is on the official Microsoft AppSource marketplace. It lives inside Outlook — no downloads, no installers, no IT ticket. Works on Outlook for web, Windows, Mac, and mobile.

You don't install anything — Microsoft adds Tallymail to your Outlook for you When you click Get it on Microsoft AppSource, Microsoft handles the install itself — Tallymail just appears in your Outlook task pane the next time you open an email. The only prompt you'll see is Microsoft asking you to allow the standard Mail.Read scope — the same one Microsoft Copilot, Clio and every mainstream Outlook add-in uses.
  • Nothing is stored. Email bodies are processed in memory to classify and value. Only time entries you explicitly save are kept, and only on your firm's isolated tenant.
  • Microsoft reviewed and certified us. Tallymail is live on Microsoft AppSource — their store does not publish an add-in that mishandles mail.
  • You can revoke access any time from Microsoft 365 → My Account → Security → Apps you've granted access to. We delete your data on revoke.
  • US data residency available on Team and above — your matters stay in US-East or US-West AWS. HIPAA-aligned addendum on Enterprise.
1

Click Install from AppSource

Signs you in with your Microsoft 365 account. No card, no downloads. Microsoft's own review has certified the add-in is safe and compliant.

2

Tallymail appears in your Outlook

Open any email → the Tallymail panel opens in your task pane. Works in Outlook for web, Windows, Mac, and mobile.

3

Scan your mailbox — 14-day free trial

Click Scan mailbox, pick a period, hit Scan. Every billable email surfaces with time captured and matter classified. Cancel any time within the 14-day trial and pay nothing.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does Tallymail read all my emails?

Tallymail reads mail in your connected inbox to classify and value matter-related correspondence. It does not read, store, or expose personal or non-billable email content beyond what's needed to generate a time entry. Full detail: tallymail.us/legal.

Where is my data stored?

Tallymail is built by Regularis Legal Limited, a UK company, and hosts customer data in the EU (Ireland). We disclose this plainly rather than hide it — see our privacy notice for what that means for your firm.

Does Tallymail replace my practice management system?

No. Tallymail is a specialist add-in for automatic billable-time capture from email — designed to work alongside Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, or whatever you already use, not replace it.

Is Tallymail suitable for solo attorneys?

Yes. The Individual plan ($49/mo) is built for solo practitioners who want defensible time records without the overhead of a full practice management platform.

How is this different from a manual timer app?

Manual timers require you to remember to start and stop them. Tallymail captures time from email activity you're already doing — nothing to remember, nothing to forget to log.

Is there a contract?

No long-term contract. Month-to-month, cancel any time.
